I feel as though, especially because of IMS201, we have all become a little bit in love with wikipedia and all it has to offer to us.  Plus we know the evil and good sides of this website.  So just to have some fun with it, I found this.  Compare “green beer day” to “george bush” and see who has higher stats.  Everythings a competition in this day an age people. oh and my moneys on green beer day.

Hey party people, I figured I’d help out the kids of IMS201 by putting up some websites that I found for Keen vs. Weinberger.  And if you’re that overachiever, then read for your own enjoyment.  here and here. Click and learn about the wonder, pros and cons, ups and downs of web2.0…and what the experts have to say.

Technology is taking over the world.  On slashdot (a site for nerds. don’t judge me.) this article describes a new robot (made by who else, but tokyo) that records everything you see.  Old people don’t worry, your keys will now always be a click away

The title has very little to do with what this post contains, but I am writing an article about this exact website which allows me to write the article. See where I’m going with this?

Anyways, even though our IMS class has tried to introduce us to different programs offered to us via the web, there’s more than just meet the eye.  In this article, it describes 48 ways to use wordpress. Things such as polling, making a grocery list, viewing movie trailers, there’s tons of tricks thaat this baby has up its sleeve. So click on that little link and return back here with your whole new perspective.

If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all February 27, 2008

Teachers are fighting back to websites where students make comments about their physical appearance or questionable teaching styles.  Myspace is being sued over a teenager’s death after a fake profile was made for her.  Graduates are cleaning out their Facebook profiles for fear of company’s seeing their Friday night out.  But thanks to a variety of websites, (click here. do it.) there’s a chance for you to save that reputation– www.com style.

This article offers a few different services for you to track how your name is being used and distributed on the internet.  But hopefully, there’s not that much dirt to dig up on you anways, no Eminem (aka Marshall Mathers)type skeletons in the closet. Just in case though, store these babies away.

They’ve taken our T.V.’s and now they’re bringing down computers too….damn you reality T.V., damn you MTV and more importantly, damn you MySpace!

MySpace recently decided to do a candid camera show, called Special Delivery. The show will air users doing funny pranks on unsuspecting delivery men/women and attempting to get them to join in the antics.  Apparently MySpace had a previous reality T.V. show that was a huge hit and was picked up by NBC (who knew?), and piggy backing off that, thought they’d give another shot–Punk’d style.

Time will tell if it’ll be a huge success or not. But for my personal opinion, web 2.0 sure bring a lot of wonderful websites, but that’s not to say it’s safe from crap.

The title is the song in case you didn’t catch on to that. Anyways.

Facebook has made making friends a whole new world. Dictionary.com has made webster extinct. Magazines and newspapers going http:// style has made struggling journalist desperate for a job. (see posts below over their feelings on this.) But now web 2.0 has made the internet have a little more “real feel.” On this website, feed journal, users can subscribe to their favorite newsfeeds and have it come to them in a newspaper format. Go to comic sites and make an “arts and life” section, or add perezhilton.com to your “gossip” page. On a Sunday morning put on that fuzzy bathrobe, grab a cup of coffee, and start up that mac. Newspaper may just need to rethink its name.

Sometimes I ask people if they like their job and they usually reply “it’s a job.” as though that explains it all. People come home from an eight (+) day and kick off their high heels, grab that microwaveable pizza and begin to bitch and moan to whoever may listen. “It’s a job.”

Me, I’m sort of the glass half full kind of girl. At Miami where business suits parade the streets, I find comfort in the comfortable chairs of Bachelor Hall’s journalism rooms. I constantly have the argument with a friend when he snaps back at me “at least I’m going to make money,” I reply “at least I’m going to be doing something I enjoy.” We all get it that the written word, especially with the idea reinforced in Ims201, is some what dying.

Well the best of all these worlds–journalism jobs & bitching and moaning has come together here. A website where journalist can vent about their job. Ironically enough they post anonymously (lord knows your name carries your reputation in journalism) their complaints. This blog highlights one of the big arguments that many of the visitors to the website seemed to disagree with. A guy who commented that maybe instead of complaining we should take productive steps to help newspapers from dying out. I agree with him and find the other comments interesting with what people had to say back. The only thing I could think when reading was hey, it’s a job.

Thanks to the beautiful invention of web2.0 we have websites such as facebook and Flickr that allow us creepers/artist/social butterflies/loners/photographers/journalist, etc to network with each other, post our work and share it with the world.  And while Europe and other countries have developed more of a western culture in their hometowns–english, whether we choose to believe it or not, is not the only language spoken on our beautiful earth. These articles about Flickr and Facebook show how the websites are recognizing this fact and also that, hey-they’re available to everyone in this world.  The wonders of the internet.

Facebook just recently, as in Feb. 11, 2008, released their site in Spanish with German and French to follow. Flickr on the other hand made this change in June of 2007 and has seven languages available to their users.  Both websites promote good business by saying they’re here for the users. Very touching. So for all those Miami students, if you’re on Facebook instead of studying for your spanish exam, now the best of both worlds are combined. Study and stalk at once!
